Mars Privacy Policy
What Mars does with messages, images and server settings, and the choices you have.
Last updated 27 October 2026
This policy explains what Mars, the Discord moderation bot made by Pure Studios, does with information from the servers it is added to. It applies to everyone in those servers: administrators, moderators and members.
Who is responsible
Pure Studios operates Mars and is responsible for the personal data Mars processes. Server administrators decide whether to add Mars, how it is configured, and who can see its log channel. Contact us at saauf@icloud.com or in our Discord server.
Messages and images
To moderate a server, Mars checks new and edited messages, including attached images, in the channels it can see. Channels and roles the server has exempted are skipped, and members with Manage Messages permission are skipped by default.
Each message's text, and images if image scanning is on, is sent to Ad Astra, the AI decision model behind Mars, which scores it against eight categories (such as harassment, hate speech, threats, sexual content, spam and personal information). Images are first resized through Discord's media proxy, and Mars only downloads images from Discord's own servers.
Mars does not save message text or images in its database. Content is held in memory only while it is being checked.
AI services behind Ad Astra
Ad Astra is a managed service that sends content to an AI moderation provider and returns a decision. The default provider is our moderation API at ai.saauf.xyz. If it is unavailable, Ad Astra may fall back to third-party providers: OpenRouter, Cloudflare Workers AI, Experiential Labs or TypeSafe. These providers receive the content of the message being checked and process it under their own terms and privacy policies.
Moderation reports and warnings
When a message goes over a category's threshold, Mars posts a report in the server's log channel. The report includes the author, the channel, the categories that matched and the flagged content, hidden behind a spoiler. Depending on the server's settings, Mars may also delete the message, time out the author, or send the author a private warning naming the categories.
Reports and warnings are ordinary Discord messages. They stay in the server or the author's DMs until someone deletes them, and the server's administrators and Discord control them, not Mars.
What Mars stores
For each server, Mars stores its settings and a few totals:
- the server ID, the log channel, category actions and thresholds, timeout length, image scanning and staff options;
- the IDs of exempted roles and channels;
- totals of messages scanned, flagged, warned and deleted, and the date counting started.
Settings are kept in a database hosted by Supabase, with access limited to the Mars service. Mars also keeps short-lived usage counters in memory to apply daily limits, and operational logs that record server and message IDs, matched categories and errors, but never message text or images.
When Mars joins a server
When Mars is added, it reads the server's audit log to find who added it and sends a welcome message to that person and the server owner. This is used once and not stored.
The /scan command
Text or images you submit with /scan are checked by Ad Astra in the same way as messages. The result is shown to you, nothing is moderated, and the content is not stored.
Why we process it
We process messages and images on the basis of legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR): the interest of server administrators, who chose Mars, and of their members in a safe community, and our interest in providing the service. We store server settings to provide the service the administrator asked for.
How long we keep it
- Message text and images: not stored after the check.
- Server settings and totals: until Mars is removed from the server. They are deleted automatically when Mars leaves.
- Usage counters: in memory for up to a day.
- Operational logs: for a limited period for troubleshooting, then deleted.
Where it is processed
Some of the providers above, including OpenRouter and Cloudflare, are based in the United States, so content may be processed outside the European Economic Area. Those transfers rely on the safeguards the GDPR requires, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
Your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, you can ask us to access, correct, delete or restrict your personal data, object to its processing, or receive a copy of it. Email saauf@icloud.com and include the server ID so we can find the right settings. To remove a report or warning about you, ask the server's administrators, since those messages are held by Discord in their server.
You can also complain to a data protection authority. In Poland this is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (Prezes Urzędu Ochrony Danych Osobowych, uodo.gov.pl).
Children
Mars is only available through Discord, which requires users to be at least 13, or older where local law says so.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Significant changes will be announced in our Discord server.
