Whether you are setting up Trace for the first time or troubleshooting an edge case in a live experience, the answers below cover the most common questions from developers and moderation teams. If your question isn’t listed here, reach out through Pure Studio’s support channel.
Yes. Trace is free for both personal and commercial Roblox experiences. You can monetize your game with in-game purchases, game passes, or paid access without paying royalties to Pure Studio. The license grants unlimited installs across all of your Roblox experiences at no cost.
No. Trace is an independent community tool created and maintained by Pure Studio. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or supported by Roblox Corporation. References to Roblox APIs and platform features are made for integration purposes only.
You must enable Players.BanningEnabled in Roblox Studio before publishing your experience. Open Game Settings → Security → Allow API Services and confirm the Banning API toggle is on. Without this setting, the Roblox Ban API is inactive and Trace cannot apply platform-level bans.
First, check your Protection Preset in the Trace settings. Switching to a less sensitive preset reduces the chance of legitimate player movement triggering detections. If a specific game mechanic - such as a launch pad, vehicle, or portal - is consistently flagged, implement Movement Exceptions in a trusted server script to explicitly authorize that movement. See the Movement Exceptions guide for implementation details.
No. All detection logic runs server-side. The Trace panel UI on the client is a convenience display only - it is not the security boundary. A player manipulating their client cannot suppress or alter server-side detections.
Assign their Roblox UserId to a staff role in Settings → Roles inside the Trace configuration. You can also configure a Roblox Group rank mapping so that any player holding a certain group rank is automatically assigned a Trace role. See the Role Setup page for step-by-step instructions.
Trace stores moderation records - warnings, bans, notes, and session replays - in your experience’s Roblox DataStores. You, as the game developer, are the controller of this data. You are responsible for handling platform data erasure requests in accordance with Roblox’s policies and applicable regulations.
Yes. The Trace license grants unlimited installs. You can deploy Trace across as many of your Roblox experiences as you like under a single license, including experiences owned by groups you manage.
Download the latest Trace.rbxm from the official Pure Studio channel and re-import it into your place. Delete the previous Trace components from ServerScriptService, ReplicatedStorage, and StarterPlayer, then unpack the new import into the same services (see the Quickstart for the exact locations). Republish once done.
Disabling a Global System turns it off for every role in your experience, including the Experience Owner. If you accidentally disable a system you need to re-enable, edit TraceConfig in ServerScriptService to restore the setting and republish - configuration written directly in Studio bypasses in-game panel restrictions.
